Amidala

This is probably my favorite costume of Amidala's. It's just so gorgeous and strange. I love it!

She wears this one to speak before the Senate - why they covered it up with that ugly black cloak is beyond me. Thank goodness for that pickup scene where Anakin wants to say goodbye to Padme!

To the left is concept art from starwars.com.

I believe this costume to also be Mongolian influenced. Compared to this picture of a Mongolian woman, the headdress is almost identical, from the crescent at the top, to the bands on the headdress, to the dangles on either side of the face, to the cylinders that hang from the headdress. Even the cloak, which is like the big black one worn over the costume in the movie, has the shoulder pads!

I also found these pictures of a Mongolian woman's costume online.

An action figure of Amidala wearing this outfit was made by Hasbro. It's nicely done! (below left) In 1999, they made a gorgeous portrait doll of this costume as well. I highly recommend it if you can find it on ebay reasonably. It is well made, and the costume is lovely! (center) And here is a great analysis of the doll costume. At below right is the paper doll from the paper doll book.
